Jean Haste

Jean is a silk painter and textile artist based at Stockton-On-Tees. She is a member of the Guild of Silk Painters and creates a range of products using her hand-painted silks.

She says it's the intensity of the colour and the element of surprise, that silk painting brings. After hand-painting the silk, she fixes the dyes with steam.

"There is a fascination involved with seeing how a piece ends up, as there is limited control over the process."

Her range includes silk scarves, jewellery and purses. She has also used her silk to created lamps and lampshades and has fused it onto glass bowls and vases.

Recently she was commissioned to create a silk covered glass kitchen splashback.
